Facebook launched Internet.org last year, and the plan is to increase the number of people who use the Internet. Facebook acquired UK-based drone company Ascenta for $20m, and looks into buying another drone company Titan Aerospace. But now, Google has already bought Titan Aerospace, not Facebook.
According to the WSJ, Google will be using Titan Aerospace to contribute to Project Loon, work with Makani to get wind power high in the sky, or help with Google Earth and Google Maps by collecting photos around the planet from high up.
The drone company, Titan Aerospace, is a new Mexico-based company that makes high-flying solar powered drones.
Google Project Loon plans to use a global network of high-altitude balloons to connect people in rural and remote areas who have no Internet access at all.
