Google ATAP announced Project Tango, the latest research, using an Android-based prototype 5″ phone with advanced 3D sensors. Using the sensors, the phone doesn't only track motion, but could build a visual map with 3D scanning. 

"It runs Android and includes development APIs to provide position, orientation, and depth data to standard Android applications written in Java, C/C++, as well as the Unity Game Engine."

Now, Google have 200 prototype development kits, and let more professional developers create.

"The goal of Project Tango is to give mobile devices a human-scale understanding of space and motion," said Johnny Lee, ATAP’s lead.
